The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board has formed a committee to mediate the ongoing dispute between India and Pakistan following the Asia Cup 2025. The move came after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) raised concerns during the ICC Board meeting on Friday.
With both nations firm on their respective positions, the ICC decided that Oman Cricket Board chairman Pankaj Khimji — known for his close ties with both boards and previous mediation experience — will head the committee.
Tensions escalated after the Asia Cup final when Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi did not hand the trophy to Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav. Reports suggest the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, citing his political role as Pakistan’s Interior Minister. Suryakumar instead symbolically celebrated the win with his teammates, prompting a diplomatic standoff between the two cricket boards.
Naqvi later invited the BCCI to receive the trophy at a Dubai ceremony on November 10, but the offer was declined. The BCCI subsequently raised the issue at the ICC meeting.
Sources said the discussions were cordial, with members from Australia, England, and South Africa encouraging both sides to resolve the matter amicably. The ICC Board agreed to form a three-member panel to address the trophy dispute and improve bilateral cricket relations.
Naqvi’s attendance at the meeting was confirmed at the last minute following a postponement of a key Senate session in Pakistan.
