A very sad accident happened on July 10, 2025, in Churu district of Rajasthan. A Jaguar fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed during a training flight. The crash took place in a farming field near Bhanoda village at around 1:25 PM.
Sadly, both pilots on board the aircraft lost their lives. This is a big loss for the Air Force and for the entire country.
The Brave Pilots Who Died
The two officers who died in the crash were:
Squadron Leader Lokendra Singh Sindhu, 44 years old, from Rohtak, Haryana
Flight Lieutenant Rishi Raj Singh, 23 years old, from Pali, Rajasthan
These two brave pilots were doing a routine training mission when the aircraft suddenly went down. They tried their best to guide the plane away from any village or homes. This saved many lives on the ground.
What the Indian Air Force Said
The Indian Air Force (IAF) shared an official message after the crash. They said:
“A Jaguar Trainer aircraft crashed near Churu during a training mission. Both pilots lost their lives. No damage to any civil property has been reported. We are deeply saddened and offer full support to the families of the brave officers.”
The IAF also confirmed that a Court of Inquiry (a detailed investigation) has been started. This team will find out exactly what caused the crash.
Third Jaguar Crash in 2025
This is not the first Jaguar crash this year. In fact, it is the third such crash in just a few months.
On March 7, a Jaguar crashed in Panchkula, Haryana. The pilot survived.
On April 2, a Jaguar crashed near Jamnagar, Gujarat, during a night mission. One pilot died in that crash.
Now, on July 10, two more officers have died in Rajasthan.
This pattern of accidents is making many people worried about whether these planes are still safe to fly.
What Is a Jaguar Fighter Jet?
The Jaguar is a fighter-bomber aircraft. It can fly low and attack ground targets. These jets were first added to the Indian Air Force in 1979 — more than 45 years ago.
They were originally made by a French and British company together. Later, India started making them at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) using technology from those countries.

Today, India is the only country in the world still flying Jaguars. Other countries like Britain, France, Nigeria, Ecuador, and Oman have stopped using them. Most of India’s Jaguars are old and have been upgraded many times, but the core parts — especially the engines — are still very old.
Why Is India Still Using Jaguars?
India still has about 120 Jaguars in service, used in six squadrons of the Air Force. Many of these jets are being used for training pilots.
So why are they still flying?
Because India is still waiting for newer aircraft to replace them. Some of the planned replacements are:
Tejas Mk2 – a modern fighter jet made in India
More Rafale jets from France
New Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) from other global suppliers
But these aircraft are not fully ready or delivered yet, so the IAF has no choice but to keep flying the old Jaguars — even though they are now risky.
What Might Have Caused the Crash?
While the final reason will be confirmed only after the investigation, past Jaguar crashes have often been linked to:
Engine failure
System malfunction
Old mechanical parts
Experts say that these crashes are a warning that these aircraft may not be safe anymore. No matter how well-trained the pilots are, they cannot stop an accident if the machine fails.
Public Reaction and Concern
People across the country have shown deep sadness and concern after the news of this crash. Social media platforms are full of tributes to Squadron Leader Sindhu and Flight Lieutenant Singh.
Citizens and defence experts are also asking the government to act fast. They want the Air Force to stop using unsafe, outdated planes and bring in new aircraft soon.
Voices from the Ground
Some villagers near the crash site said that the pilots tried to take the aircraft away from the homes and saved many lives.
One eyewitness said:
“We saw smoke and fire. It looked like the pilot turned the plane away from the village. He tried to save us. We will never forget this.”
Why This Matters
Every time an accident like this happens, we lose not just a pilot, but a national asset. These pilots are highly trained and work hard to keep the country safe. Losing them during training — not even war — is truly heartbreaking.
It also means that families lose their loved ones, children lose their parents, and the country loses experienced warriors.
What Needs to Happen Now
The IAF and Government of India must urgently complete the investigations.
Strong steps should be taken to retire old and risky aircraft.
New aircraft programs like Tejas Mk2 should be given more support and faster timelines.
More investment is needed in pilot safety, training equipment, and technology.
The country must not wait for more lives to be lost before acting.
The crash of the Jaguar jet in Rajasthan is a sad moment for the nation. Two young, brave officers gave their lives while serving the country. They deserve respect, gratitude, and action.
As we mourn this loss, let it also be a wake-up call — to modernize the Air Force, protect our pilots, and make our skies safer.
