In today’s busy world, Millennials and Gen Z are changing how we think about health and wellness. The global wellness market, now worth more than $2 trillion, is growing fast — and younger people are leading the way. They care not just about physical health, but also about mental health, good sleep, healthy food, and self-care. Because of this, many companies are changing how they make and sell their products.
Older generations used to think wellness was just about going to the gym or visiting a doctor. But Millennials and Gen Z think wellness means a healthy lifestyle in every way. For them, it includes taking care of your mind, emotions, skin, and even the food you eat.
They like new things like meditation apps, vitamin packs made just for you, and products that are natural and safe. These young people want products that are honest, simple, and made for different needs.
One of the biggest changes is how much mental health matters now. In the past, people didn’t talk about mental health much. But now, many young people are open about their feelings, stress, and anxiety. They use tools like therapy, meditation, journaling, and mindfulness to feel better.
Apps like Calm, Headspace, and BetterHelp are very popular. Many influencers talk about mental health online and help others feel safe talking about it too. Because of this, brands are now making products that help reduce stress and help you sleep better.
Young people today care about more than their own health — they also care about the planet and how products are made. They want natural, cruelty-free, and chemical-free products. This is called the clean beauty movement.
They also ask questions like:
“Is this product safe?”
“Is it good for the environment?”
“Does it work for all skin colors and body types?”
Wellness is now also about values. Gen Z especially wants to support brands that stand for things like climate change, equality, and mental health support. So, brands now try to sell not just a product, but a positive message.
Technology is helping more people take care of their health. Millennials and Gen Z use smartwatches, fitness trackers, and apps to watch their steps, sleep, stress, and more. During the pandemic, many started doing online workouts, therapy sessions, and virtual health checkups.
Devices like the Apple Watch or Oura Ring help people stay healthy by showing them useful health data. You can also find workouts, meal plans, and breathing exercises all on your phone.
Also, more people now shop online for wellness. They want fast delivery, easy access, and subscriptions that bring self-care products right to their homes.
With the global wellness market expected to grow to $7 trillion by 2030, big brands are now changing their focus to match what younger people want.
For example:
Nike offers not just fitness but also mindfulness programs.
Sephora has sections for clean beauty.
TikTok has made many wellness influencers popular.
Even the food and drink industry is changing. Gen Z wants plant-based, low-sugar, and gut-friendly foods. They want food that helps them feel better, not just tastes good.
Even with all the good changes, there are some problems. Social media can sometimes make people feel bad about their bodies or compare themselves to others. Some companies also pretend to be "healthy" or "eco-friendly" without really being honest — this is called wellness washing.
But the future still looks bright. The demand for good wellness products and services will keep growing. The best companies will be the ones that offer real, inclusive, and useful products.
For Millennials and Gen Z, wellness is not just a short-term trend. It’s part of how they live every day. They care about feeling good inside and out, helping the planet, and making sure everyone is included.
As the global wellness market grows, these younger generations will keep leading the way. They will continue to ask for better products, better values, and better experiences.
Companies that listen and care will succeed. And that means a healthier future for all of us.
