Iran-backed Hezbollah has vowed retaliation against Israel following a series of explosions involving pagers in Lebanon that resulted in nine deaths and approximately 2,800 injuries. The attacks occurred on Tuesday and targeted areas in southern Lebanon known as Hezbollah strongholds.
Hezbollah has accused Israel of orchestrating the detonations, claiming that the explosives were concealed within pagers used by its members. The group reported that among the deceased were two of its fighters and a young girl. Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad confirmed that around 2,800 people were injured, with about 200 in critical condition. The injuries primarily affected the face, hands, and stomach.

Reports indicate that Iran’s ambassador in Beirut was also injured in one of the explosions, though his injuries were not severe. According to sources, explosive materials were hidden in pagers that were imported into Lebanon. The pagers were reportedly made by a European company licensed to use the Taiwanese Gold Apollo brand.
Hezbollah has condemned Israel for what it describes as "criminal aggression" and has pledged that Israel will face severe consequences. In a statement, Hezbollah declared that Israel would "certainly receive its just punishment for this sinful aggression."
The United States, a close ally of Israel and its principal arms supplier, has denied involvement and stated that it was unaware of the incident prior to its occurrence. Meanwhile, Hamas, which is currently engaged in conflict with Israel in Gaza, labeled the pager explosions as an "escalation" that would lead to Israel's "failure and defeat."
The pager attacks came shortly after Israel announced an expansion of its military objectives in the Gaza conflict, including operations against Hezbollah along the Lebanon border. The exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli military have intensified since the Hamas attacks on October 7, which sparked the ongoing Gaza war.
