Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has launched a new initiative called ‘Erth Dubai.’ This project aims to preserve Dubai’s rich history by collecting and documenting stories from people in the community.

Sheikh Hamdan stated that this initiative will help future generations understand the cultural heritage of Dubai and keep it alive. He highlighted that the emirate's progress has been built on the legacy of its past leaders, who laid the foundations for its success.

“Our shared heritage and values are the pillars of Dubai’s growth. By documenting our history, we ensure that the story of our ancestors continues to inspire and guide the generations to come,” said Sheikh Hamdan.

The ‘Erth Dubai’ project will create a digital archive of personal experiences, historical events, and cultural memories. This archive will be accessible to researchers, students, and the general public.

Honoring the Past

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that Dubai’s transformation into a global city has been made possible through the dedication and vision of its ancestors. He encouraged people to contribute their stories, saying that every testimony is a valuable piece of history.

“Dubai’s journey is one of ambition, determination, and unity. Our ancestors dreamed of a bright future, our parents worked hard to achieve it, and today, we continue to build on their efforts. It is our responsibility to protect this legacy and ensure it remains a source of pride for future generations,” he added.

The initiative calls on all members of society, including students, families, business leaders, and government officials, to participate by sharing their stories and experiences. Sheikh Hamdan also urged government agencies to support the project to ensure its success.

Engaging the Community

‘Erth Dubai’ invites people of all ages to share their memories, helping to create a deeper connection to the city’s past. An interactive platform is being developed to collect and preserve these historical accounts, ensuring they are not lost over time.

The initiative will take place in multiple phases throughout 2025. First, community members will submit their stories, which will then be reviewed by experts in history, culture, and social studies to ensure their accuracy and significance.

Public and private school students, along with Dubai government employees, will be actively involved in gathering and documenting these stories. Participants will contribute personal memories of life in Dubai, highlighting significant moments, family traditions, and everyday experiences. These contributions will help create a well-rounded historical record of Dubai’s cultural and social development.

School Campaign

To further engage young people, ‘Erth Dubai’ will collaborate with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) to launch a schools campaign. Students will be encouraged to interview their parents and grandparents, collecting their life experiences and personal stories. This will help young generations appreciate the past and connect with Dubai’s cultural roots.

A Step Towards Preserving History

‘Erth Dubai’ is part of a broader effort led by Sheikh Hamdan to document and celebrate Dubai’s journey. Another important project in this effort is the Dubai National Archives Project, which is managed by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library. This project focuses on preserving government records, historical documents, and cultural heritage in a globally recognized format.

Through ‘Erth Dubai’ and other similar initiatives, Dubai is taking active steps to ensure that its history remains alive and accessible for generations to come. Sheikh Hamdan’s vision is to create a lasting record of the emirate’s growth, honoring the contributions of its people and inspiring future generations to build on this strong foundation.
