The Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) and the Government of Ghana have come together to sign an important agreement to create Ghana’s first-ever economic zone and digital incubator in Accra. This project is designed to help Ghana become a leading technology center in the region and attract investments to West Africa.
The agreement, called a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), was signed by H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, who is the Chairman of PCFC, and Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation.
According to the agreement, a large area of 25 square kilometers in Accra will be set aside for the development of this new economic zone. PCFC will be responsible for running the zone and working to bring in technology companies from around the world. Together, they will also work on building digital infrastructure and developing properties within this area.

H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said that PCFC is committed to supporting the UAE’s efforts to reach out globally and share Dubai’s experience in innovation and economic growth. He explained that this project shows how PCFC is helping Dubai grow as a leader in knowledge and technology. He added that their goal is to launch projects that encourage steady growth, invest in people and new technologies, and strengthen Dubai’s position as a center for smart technology and digital change.
He also thanked the Government of Ghana for trusting PCFC’s knowledge and warmly welcoming this initiative. He believes that this smart economic zone, which combines technology, innovation, and logistics, will boost business growth and improve Ghana’s industrial and technological strength.
Hon. Samuel Nartey George said that this partnership will greatly improve Ghana’s economy and help it become a technology hub for the whole African region. He said the project matches Ghana’s goals for digital growth and long-term economic success. The new zone will attract global companies and talented individuals, making Accra a popular destination for international business.
PCFC will handle the advanced digital systems in the zone to support businesses not just in Ghana, but across Africa. This will create a strong foundation for innovation and new investment opportunities, helping companies grow locally and internationally.
Teams from both Ghana and the UAE, with skills in artificial intelligence and investment, will manage the zone. They will work to encourage innovation, business development, and connections within the region. The goal is to support local communities, traders, and investors, helping them benefit from economic growth that includes everyone and lasts for a long time.
This partnership is an important step in building global ties that promote technology and economic progress. It will help put Ghana in a leading position as Africa moves toward a digital future.
