A 26-year-old Asian man has been handed a life sentence by a Dubai court for the murder of his girlfriend, whom he strangled before concealing her body under his bed and subsequently disposing of it in a suitcase. The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld the verdict on April 29, affirming the decision made by a lower court in September of the previous year. Additionally, the convict will face deportation upon completion of his prison term.
According to court documents, the tragic incident unfolded on January 26, 2022, at the man's residence in International City, during a heated altercation between the couple. As tensions escalated, the man fatally strangled his girlfriend and concealed her remains under his bed. In an attempt to cover up the crime, he disposed of her personal belongings, including her mobile phone, in a sewage pipe.

Remarkably, his flatmates returned home oblivious to the presence of the deceased woman in their midst and proceeded with their routine, even going out for shopping without noticing the grim reality. The following day, the perpetrator left for Jebel Ali and reserved a hotel room, subsequently notifying his flatmates of the murder via text message. Despite their knowledge of the crime, both individuals urged him to remove the body from the apartment.
Procuring a large suitcase, the man packed the victim's body inside and abandoned it near a garbage bin. The grisly discovery was made by a vigilant security guard on January 29, 2022, when a human leg protruded from the suitcase upon inspection.
The swift response of the police led to the identification of the victim and the apprehension of the perpetrator on the same day. During interrogation, the man initially admitted to the crime, disclosing that he had met the woman at a dance club and that she frequently visited his apartment. However, he later recanted his confession in court, denying the charges against him. Nonetheless, the court found him guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Furthermore, his flatmates, who were charged with failing to report the crime, were sentenced to three months in jail each. Following the completion of their prison terms, they were deported from the country.
This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the consequences of domestic violence and the importance of reporting criminal activity promptly to prevent further harm.
