Dubai to Launch Flying Cars with eVTOLs by 2026

Dubai is gearing up to welcome a new era of urban mobility as flying cars are set to take to its skies by 2026. The city aims to transform congested roads into open airways, offering quick point-to-point travel with electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

Unlike traditional airplanes or helicopters, eVTOLs can hover, take off, and land vertically, making them ideal for short-distance urban trips. The sleek vehicles resemble oversized helicopters with drone-like wings and multiple propellers, capable of carrying passengers over busy streets and offering a glimpse of futuristic city travel.

Xpeng Aeroht, the electric vehicle (EV) giant from China, has unveiled its new eVTOL model, the Land Aircraft Carrier, in Dubai. The two-seater can operate autonomously or with a pilot, providing flexibility and ease of use. Extensive testing has been conducted, with over 200 prototypes and more than 5,000 safety flights carried out in diverse conditions, from extreme heat to high altitudes and moist areas.

Adding to its versatility, the eVTOL can be transported using a six-wheel off-road vehicle designed to carry, store, and recharge the aircraft. This integration aims to lower the barriers to flying, making personal air travel more accessible to the public.

While eVTOLs promise innovation, the industry still faces hurdles such as battery efficiency, air traffic management, and infrastructure development. Nevertheless, Dubai is fast-tracking solutions to prepare its skies for these futuristic vehicles.

Xpeng plans to deliver the first units of the Land Aircraft Carrier in Dubai by 2027, with 600 pre-orders already placed by customers in the region. With these advances, the dream of flying cars is closer than ever, poised to redefine the way people move across the city.
