His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, chaired the Council’s first meeting of 2026 at Dubai Media. The meeting focused on reviewing Dubai Media’s strategy and future plans to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global hub for media, the creative economy, and content production.
During the meeting, Sheikh Ahmed approved the launch of Dubai+, a new digital platform that will offer diverse media content for all family members. The platform reflects changing digital consumption trends and the growing demand for local and international entertainment content. Dubai+ will feature a wide range of Arab and global series and films and aims to strengthen Dubai’s role as a regional content production and distribution hub.
The Council also discussed future plans to enhance local film production and promote cinema as a cultural and creative industry. Samr Al Marzooqi, Director of Films and Production at the Dubai Media Council, shared upcoming initiatives to support the film sector, invest in creative talent, and showcase Emirati and international filmmakers.
The meeting reviewed the upcoming UAE–Kuwait Media Celebration, organised by the Dubai Press Club under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The event aims to strengthen media cooperation and cultural ties between the UAE and Kuwait.
Council members were also briefed on major national and community campaigns led by Brand Dubai in 2025, including the #ZayedAndRashid campaign and the Hatta Winter initiative under the #DubaiDestinations campaign.
On the sidelines, Sheikh Ahmed reviewed advanced external broadcast technologies introduced by Dubai Media and its partners, including systems launched for the first time in the Middle East.
Sheikh Ahmed stressed that media plays a key role in shaping public awareness, supporting development, and building trust. He highlighted the importance of investing in talent, empowering youth, using AI and technology, and attracting specialised investments to accelerate the growth of Dubai’s media sector.
Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, said the Council will ensure strategic initiatives are implemented with clear governance and measurable results. Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Council, added that efforts will continue to expand content development, strengthen storytelling capabilities, and invest in talent and advanced production technologies for long-term growth.
