Demi Moore made a big splash at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, winning Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in The Substance. This was her very first individual acting award after 45 years in the industry, making the moment even more special and emotional.

At the ceremony on January 5, Demi appeared surprised and deeply grateful. “I wasn’t expecting that,” she said, looking stunned. “I’ve been doing this a long time—over 45 years—and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor. I’m just so humbled and so thankful.”

She then shared a personal story about a tough time in her career. A producer once told her that she was a “popcorn actress,” meaning she was only good for popular movies and would never be taken seriously for her acting talent. She explained how this made her doubt herself, but everything changed when she received the script for The Substance. She called it “magical, bold, courageous, out of the box, absolutely bonkers” and felt like the universe was telling her, “You’re not done yet.”

In her speech, Demi also talked about the importance of knowing your own worth. She shared advice a woman had given her years ago: “Just know you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.” Demi said this award now represents her “wholeness” and how far she has come.

Though Demi had won the Robert Altman Award in 2012 as part of the Margin Call ensemble, this Golden Globe win was a first for her as an individual. She had been nominated for Golden Globes twice before, for Ghost in 1991 and If These Walls Could Talk in 1997, but this win was something very special.

Demi’s emotional speech quickly went viral after Variety shared the video, racking up over 450,000 views. Fans on social media were moved by her words. One person wrote, “So well deserved & such a beautiful speech, Demi Moore,” while another said, “Really good speech and a well-deserved win. Demi gave an amazing, brave performance in The Substance. Congrats to her!” Many others found her speech inspiring, with one comment saying, “This is every woman’s song. Powerful. Thank you, Demi! Congrats!”

Demi Moore’s Golden Globe win and her heartfelt speech touched many, showing how perseverance, self-worth, and believing in yourself can lead to great things.
