Ageing is something that everyone experiences. Many people think ageing is mostly about getting wrinkles, white hair, or feeling tired more easily. Some believe it is only about genetics, meaning it depends on the DNA we are born with. But a senior cardiologist with 20 years of experience, Dr Sanjay Bhojraj, says that this idea is not complete. According to him, ageing begins much deeper in the body, especially in our heart.
He shared this message in a recent video, where he explained three major points that most people misunderstand about ageing. His message tries to help people understand that preventing ageing is possible if we take care of our daily habits. The goal is not only to live long, but also to live healthy, active, and happy.
Dr Bhojraj believes that our heart tells our age more clearly than our face. Even if a person looks young on the outside, their heart may be aging faster than they realize. This can lead to health problems such as heart disease, tiredness, and reduced strength.
He explains that many people damage their heart and body every day without noticing. They may follow habits they believe are healthy, but these habits might be increasing stress on the body. For example, skipping sleep, sitting for long hours, eating processed foods, or ignoring physical exercise. These habits cause the cells, muscles, and arteries to age faster.
This means that ageing is not something that happens suddenly when we turn 50 or 60. It happens slowly, every day, based on the choices we make. If someone takes good care of their habits early in life, they can protect their heart and slow down ageing.
Many people understand ageing only when they feel pain, weakness, or fatigue. But the heart shows the signs much earlier. If the heart becomes weak, it affects the entire body. Blood circulation may slow down. The brain may feel tired. The muscles may lose energy. This is why the cardiologist says, “Your heart tells your age long before your face does.”
Another doctor, Dr Jeremy London, shared some habits that can help increase a person’s lifespan and keep the heart strong. His advice is simple and easy to follow. He suggests people should exercise regularly, eat fresh and wholesome food, sleep well, and stay socially connected with family and friends. He also speaks about the benefits of heat therapy, such as sitting in a warm sauna, which helps improve blood flow and relax the body.
Exercise does not need to be difficult. Even a daily 30-minute walk can make a big difference. Eating healthy does not mean giving up all favourite foods. It means choosing natural foods most of the time instead of packaged snacks. Rest is important because when we sleep, our body repairs itself. If sleep is poor, the body cannot recover and ageing speeds up.
Spending time with people we care about also plays an important role. Human connection reduces stress and keeps the mind happy. Stress is one of the main reasons for many health problems, including heart issues. When a person feels supported and loved, the heart stays healthier.
Both doctors make it clear that healthy ageing is possible. It is not something that only rich people can achieve. It does not require expensive medicines or hard diets. It mainly depends on small choices we make daily. If a person starts early, the benefits are even greater. But even if someone starts later in life, the body can still improve.
The key message is that ageing is not only about what we see. It is about how the heart and inner systems work. Keeping the heart strong means keeping the whole body young.
This message is especially important today, as more people are living fast lifestyles, eating quickly prepared food, and spending hours in front of screens. Understanding how daily habits affect health can help prevent diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
Good health is a responsibility each person holds for themselves. Small changes can create big results. Choosing to walk instead of sitting all day, drinking water instead of sugary drinks, sleeping on time, and managing stress can improve life quality.
