Boeing’s share price fell sharply in the last 24 hours, sliding 5% during Thursday’s trading session and dipping another 2% in pre-market hours Friday, following the tragic crash of an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The accident resulted in the loss of over 100 lives and has reignited safety concerns across the global aviation sector.
The Ahmedabad incident marks the first-ever fatal crash involving a 787 Dreamliner, and with Boeing already under pressure over prior quality-control concerns, the crash has raised serious alarms for investors.
Market reactions were swift. Boeing’s stock dropped to around $203, wiping out several billion dollars in market cap. Shares of related suppliers such as GE Aerospace and Spirit AeroSystems also took a hit, signaling industry-wide panic.

Experts believe that the incident could lead to regulatory probes, reputational damage, and potential delays in deliveries of Boeing aircraft, including the Dreamliner and the troubled 737 MAX.
Despite the selloff, Boeing still maintains a strong order book of more than 900 unfilled Dreamliner orders, which could anchor long-term investor sentiment.
“This crash has clearly derailed Boeing’s short-term recovery momentum,” said Neil Wilson, Chief Market Analyst at Saxo Bank. “The company is walking a thin line between innovation and reliability.”
Meanwhile, Tata Group, the parent company of Air India, announced a compensation of ₹1 crore (approx. $120,000) to the families of the deceased, further highlighting the severity and corporate accountability surrounding the event.
So what should investors do now?
Financial analysts are split. For short-term traders, the advice leans toward caution or lightening positions, as regulatory scrutiny and public perception may keep shares volatile for weeks. However, long-term investors might see this dip as a buying opportunity, especially if investigations point to a one-off issue rather than a structural fault.
“If the issue turns out to be operational rather than mechanical, Boeing’s fundamentals remain strong,” one Wall Street strategist noted.
