Arab Parliament Condemns Israeli Move To Annex West Bank

Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, who is the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, has strongly condemned a recent decision taken by Israel’s parliament, known as the Knesset. This decision is about imposing what Israel calls “Israeli sovereignty” over the West Bank.

Why Did Al Yamahi Condemn This Decision?

Al Yamahi believes this step is very dangerous and unfair to the Palestinian people. He called it a blatant legislative aggression, meaning it is a law that directly attacks the rights of Palestinians. Violation of International Law and UN Resolutions

According to Al Yamahi, this Israeli decision is against international law and also violates many resolutions passed by the United Nations. He specifically mentioned the following UN Security Council Resolutions:

• Resolution 242, which calls for Israel to withdraw its forces from territories occupied in the 1967 war.

• Resolution 338, which calls for peace talks between Israel and its Arab neighbours based on Resolution 242.

• Resolution 2334, which states that Israel’s settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories have no legal validity.

Al Yamahi explained that approving such legislation is not just a problem for Palestinians, but also for the entire world. It threatens international peace and security.

A Direct Threat to Global Peace

In his statement, Al Yamahi said that passing these types of racist laws in the Knesset is a direct threat to peace and security for everyone. He said it shows that Israel is determined to continue its colonial plans and to build an apartheid system.

He explained that Israel is trying to give these actions a false legal cover so that the world sees them as legal, even though they are not. He said this is a clear defiance of the UN Charter and international laws that talk about the right of people to decide their own future.

Call to the Inter-Parliamentary Union

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is an international organisation of parliaments from around the world. Al Yamahi asked this union to take a strong stand against Israel’s actions. He believes that the Israeli Knesset has broken the main principles that all parliaments should follow globally.

Demand for Suspension of Knesset’s Membership

Because of these actions, Al Yamahi demanded that the Knesset’s membership in the Inter-Parliamentary Union should be suspended immediately. He said the Knesset is acting as a legislative body that supports occupation and building of illegal settlements. This, he said, weakens the democratic system that the global parliamentary system is based on.

Appeal to Parliaments Across the World

Al Yamahi also urged all parliaments around the world not to recognise any laws passed by the Israeli Knesset that affect the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories. He asked them not to accept these laws because they are unfair and go against international law.

He further called for parliamentary sanctions against those members of the Knesset who vote in favour of annexation and settlement projects. He described these members as direct partners in breaking international law and supporting an apartheid system against Palestinians.
