Amar Kaushik breaks silence on Alia Bhatt’s role in Chamunda

Filmmaker Amar Kaushik has opened up about the growing curiosity around Alia Bhatt possibly joining the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) in its next installment, Chamunda.

When asked if Alia Bhatt is part of Chamunda, Amar said,

“Everything is on the timeline. When it happens, everyone will know. I am neither denying nor accepting anything at this time. We only focus on the story and think about casting later. We don’t write scripts based on the cast.”

The director emphasized that at MHCU, storytelling takes precedence over star-driven narratives. “Thankfully, that does not happen here,” he added.

MHCU to “Raise the Bar” for Fans

Kaushik assured fans that the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is evolving with every new film.

“The audience can expect the bar to go up with the upcoming films. We make these for the fans and the public. If we make a mistake, please tell us through Instagram or any platform,” he said.

He further added that the team strives to stay honest and authentic:

“We don’t want to be polluted. We want to be honest, like we were with Stree. We just hope to give the audience what they want.”

The Maddock Horror Comedy Universe began with Amar Kaushik’s 2018 blockbuster Stree, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. The franchise has since expanded with interconnected films like Bhediya, Munjya, Stree 2, and the recent Thamma.

The latest entry, Thamma, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Co-produced by Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan, the MHCU continues to expand with upcoming titles like Shakti Shalini starring Aneet Padda, and Bhediya 2 featuring Varun Dhawan.

Alia Bhatt’s Upcoming Projects

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt is busy with a strong lineup of high-profile films. She will next be seen in YRF’s spy thriller Alpha, directed by Shiv Rawail, alongside Sharvari Wagh. Alia plays a commanding officer in an elite all-women combat unit, with the film slated for a December 25 release.

She will also star opposite Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War — a grand period romantic drama that reunites Bhatt and Kapoor on screen after Brahmastra.
