ISLAMABAD – At least seven Pakistani soldiers were killed and 13 others injured in a devastating suicide attack near the Afghan border on Friday, marking one of the deadliest assaults in the region amid a fragile ceasefire between Islamabad and Kabul. The attack targeted a military camp in North Waziristan and was reportedly carried out by terrorists linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), according to Pakistani media reports.

The suicide attack near the Afghan border unfolded when a militant rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the boundary wall of a military fort, causing a massive blast that claimed the lives of seven soldiers and wounded thirteen more. Two other attackers attempted to breach the facility but were shot dead by Pakistani forces. The incident underscores the ongoing threat of terrorism in Pakistan, particularly in volatile border regions.

This latest suicide attack near the Afghan border comes at a delicate time, following days of tense clashes between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban. The two nations had agreed to a 48-hour truce earlier this month to pause intense fighting along the contested frontier. Pakistani officials accuse militants of using Afghan soil as a safe haven to carry out attacks, heightening long-standing security concerns.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the suicide attack near the Afghan border, saying Islamabad had “retaliated” after losing patience with Kabul over repeated militant strikes. Sharif also expressed willingness to hold talks with Afghanistan to resolve the conflict, highlighting Pakistan’s dual approach of military vigilance and diplomatic engagement in response to cross-border terrorism.

The Afghan Taliban, however, denied responsibility, asserting that Pakistan has spread misinformation and is sheltering ISIS-linked groups to destabilize Afghanistan. The suicide attack near the Afghan border intensifies tensions between the neighbors, drawing international attention and mediation efforts from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, who are attempting to curb the worst outbreak of violence in decades along the frontier.

The tragedy of the suicide attack near the Afghan border has left families mourning and raised urgent calls for increased security measures. Analysts warn that ongoing instability threatens regional peace, and resolving militant activity along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border will be crucial in preventing further bloodshed in the months ahead.
