When emergency crews arrived at the beach, they found that the swimmer had been bitten by a shark while in the water. Unfortunately, she suffered life-threatening injuries and later died from them. Police have not revealed the woman's identity, but news reports indicate that she was 17 years old.

The beach at Woorim is a well-known spot, regularly visited by swimmers and local groups. Christopher Potter, a resident who spoke about the incident, mentioned that while sharks are known to be in the waters around Bribie Island, attacks close to the shore are still very rare and surprising.
