Zayed Airport wins World’s Most Beautiful Airport at Prix Versailles Awards

Zayed International Airport, called AUH, has been named the World’s Most Beautiful Airport at the Prix Versailles Awards. These awards honor buildings with great design. The announcement was made in Paris at UNESCO’s Headquarters. This happy moment came during the airport’s first birthday and the UAE’s 53rd National Day, known as Eid Al Etihad.

The airport’s design is a mix of modern ideas and Abu Dhabi’s culture. It includes patterns inspired by Islamic art and the natural beauty of the area. One special feature is Sana Al Nour, a huge 30-meter-wide artwork. It brings in fresh air and sunlight while saving energy by 10%.

The airport is very large, covering 742,000 square meters. Its X-shape design can handle 11,000 passengers every hour and park 79 planes at the same time. This doubles the number of travelers it can serve. AUH is ready to welcome up to 45 million passengers every year. By 2025, it will add new checkpoints using face recognition to make travel easier.

Elena Sorlini, the leader of Abu Dhabi Airports, said this award is a proud moment for Abu Dhabi and the UAE. She thanked Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan and the design company Kohn Pedersen Fox. She also praised the 25,000 workers who helped build the airport. She said the airport is a symbol of the UAE’s big dreams and plans for the future.

In just one year, Zayed International Airport has become the fastest-growing airport in the Middle East for international flights. Travelers gave it high satisfaction ratings, placing it among the world’s best airports. By September 2024, it had served over 21 million passengers, showing it is very popular.

This award shows how hard everyone worked to make the airport a success. It also proves Abu Dhabi is a global leader in air travel, offering amazing experiences for everyone who visits.
