YouTuber Giving Parenting Advice Faces 60 Years for Child Abuse

Ruby Franke, a former YouTube vlogger known for dispensing parenting advice to millions, has been sentenced to up to 60 years in prison following her guilty plea to child abuse charges. The sentencing, delivered by Judge Richard Christofferson, includes four consecutive terms ranging from one to 15 years. Franke, a mother of six, broke down in tears during her court address.

Franke's guilty plea in December pertained to four counts of child abuse, involving severe mistreatment of two of her children aged nine and 11 at the time. Allegations include psychological manipulation, food deprivation, and isolation, creating living conditions prosecutors likened to a "concentration camp." Franke's former business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, who was implicated in the abuse, received an identical sentence.

Utah prosecutor Eric Clarke detailed the disturbing conditions, noting that the children were regularly denied basic necessities like food, water, beds, and most forms of entertainment. Franke apologized to her children in court, expressing disorientation and a belief in a distorted reality where darkness was light and right was wrong.

Franke's worldview, as revealed in court, included a belief in an evil world filled with controlling cops, injurious hospitals, brainwashing government agencies, lying and lustful church leaders, husbands refusing protection, and children requiring abuse. This warped perspective, she claimed, led her to participate in the mistreatment.

The legal proceedings trace back to an incident in August 2023, when Franke and Hildebrandt were arrested after Franke's undernourished 12-year-old son escaped through a window at Hildebrandt's residence in Ivins, Utah. Seeking help from a neighbor, the child disclosed the harsh conditions, including being restrained with a rope and sustaining lacerations.
