Fishermen, both professionals and amateurs, will compete for cash prizes totaling AED 1.168 million. These prizes will go to the top 60 winners, and there will also be daily prizes to encourage the participants. The championship will take place at three key locations: Al Marfa, Abu Dhabi Corniche, and Delma Island. Registration is now open through the official Instagram page of the championship, @ADKingfish.
Zayed Sari Al Mazrouei, head of the events department at the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, said that the championship is a step towards making Abu Dhabi a well-known sports and heritage place in the world. The goal is to keep the UAE’s marine heritage alive while encouraging traditional fishing and focusing on environmental care and sustainability.
Zayed added, “After the success of the Al Dhafra Grand Kingfish Championship, we are excited to hold the Yas Grand Kingfish Championship. This event is supported by Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, showing how much the leaders of the UAE care about keeping the country’s marine traditions alive and promoting both sports and cultural tourism.”
Saeed Khalifa Al Muhairi, the Director of the Special Sports Department at ADSC, said that the council is working hard to support tournaments like this one, which blend sports with heritage. He mentioned that they are ensuring all the required help is given to make the event special for all the participants.
“We are making sure everything goes smoothly and working with the right people to make the event a great success. This championship will help Abu Dhabi stand out as a special sports, tourism, and heritage place,” Al Muhairi said.
Saif Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Racing and Sporting Events Committee at ADMSC, also said that the club will play an important role in making sure the championship is successful. The club is experienced in organizing Kingfish Championships and will use that experience to make the event enjoyable for everyone.
“The Yas Grand Kingfish Championship will help make Abu Dhabi known all over the world for both its sports events and its rich culture,” Saif Al Suwaidi said.
As part of the Abu Dhabi Grand Kingfish Championship series, the Yas Grand Kingfish Championship will give cars to the champions with the highest total points in three and four championships. The fisherman with the heaviest kingfish catch in both the Men’s and Women’s categories will win a fishing boat.
The event aims to protect the UAE’s marine traditions, get younger generations involved in traditional fishing, and help promote tourism. It will also help the local economy and improve Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a global sports and cultural hub.
