As World Diabetes Day 2025 arrives, experts are reminding people that diabetes is not only about high sugar. It is also closely linked to the way we live our lives. Many people sit for long hours, eat unhealthy food, and do not move enough. Over time, this lifestyle leads to health problems, including diabetes.
Dr. N.K. Soni, a doctor with 40 years of experience, says that managing diabetes does not always require strict diets or complicated workouts. He explains that just 30 minutes of daily exercise can make a big difference in controlling blood sugar levels.
He says people often worry that they need special equipment or a gym membership. But that is not true. Simple activities done every day can help the body work better. You can walk to a nearby shop instead of ordering online. You can take the stairs instead of the elevator. You can dance while cleaning or play with your kids in the park. Any activity that gets your body moving is helpful.
Many people say they don’t have time for exercise, but Dr. Soni points out that we often spend long hours scrolling on our phones. He suggests using at least 30 minutes of that time for a brisk walk. Small changes in daily habits can bring big health benefits.
Dr. Soni also gives simple advice to break the cycle of inactivity. He tells his patients not to sit or lie down immediately after eating dinner. Instead, he suggests taking a slow walk around the house or walking while talking on the phone. This helps the body use the sugar from food instead of letting it stay in the blood.
He also reminds everyone about the importance of drinking water. Staying hydrated helps the body remove toxins and keeps all systems working smoothly.
As World Diabetes Day is observed worldwide, the message is clear: managing diabetes is possible with small, simple changes. A little movement every day, good hydration, and mindful habits can greatly improve health. According to Dr. Soni, “Half an hour is all it takes to start fighting diabetes.”
