On World Diabetes Day 2025, doctors in New Delhi shared an important message: diabetes is not only about high blood sugar. It affects many parts of the body, including hormones, bones, skin, and even hair. This day, observed on November 14 every year, reminds people to understand their risks and take action early.
This year’s theme, “Know Your Risk, Know Your Response,” encourages people to look deeper and learn how diabetes works inside the body. Experts say this helps people understand the disease better and take steps to protect their health.
Doctors from different fields spoke about how diabetes harms the body in ways many people do not notice.
Dr Shobha Gupta, an IVF specialist, said that diabetes can disturb women’s hormones. She explained that many women in their 30s and 40s face irregular periods, PCOS, and fertility problems because of insulin resistance. She said lifestyle changes, early check-ups, and more awareness can prevent long-term issues.
Orthopaedic doctor Dr Abhishek Vaish said that diabetes can weaken bones and joints. Many patients do not know that high blood sugar can damage bone strength. This makes bones more likely to break. He said regular check-ups and proper sugar control are important for bone health too.
Cosmetologist Dr Karuna Malhotra shared that diabetes also affects the skin and hair. She said that dark neck patches, acne, and dull skin can be early signs of insulin resistance. She added that skin treatments help from the outside, but fixing the body’s internal balance is the real solution.
Doctors said that diabetes can be silent but very harmful. It affects the heart, kidneys, nerves, hormones, bones, and skin. That is why early testing, healthy eating, exercise, and regular doctor visits are important.
World Diabetes Day is a reminder that people should not ignore warning signs. With awareness and early care, many serious problems can be prevented.
