The 'Empress,' officially designated as Canadian Pacific 2816, holds a storied history, dating back to its construction in 1930. As part of the Final Spike Steam Tour commemorating a historic merger that birthed Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), the locomotive embarked on a transcontinental journey from Calgary, traversing Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Scheduled to conclude its tour in Mexico City on Friday, the train, meticulously restored for the occasion, is poised to retire upon its return to Canada in July.
