The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, extended heartfelt thanks to the United Arab Emirates and its President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for a generous donation of $5 million. This contribution is directed towards the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, aiming to vaccinate 640,000 children against polio in Gaza.
Dr. Tedros expressed his gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Deep gratitude to the UAE and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed for their contribution of $5 million to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to vaccinate 640,000 children against polio in Gaza."

Earlier on Friday, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed instructed the allocation of funds to support a crucial polio vaccination campaign in Gaza, following the resurgence of the virus in the region. This initiative, made possible by the UAE’s pledge, will be executed in partnership with the WHO, UNICEF, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The campaign is planned in two rounds and will deliver two doses of the polio vaccine to children under the age of 10 across Gaza. This effort is aimed at halting the spread of the virus and preventing a broader regional outbreak.
