In response to the unprecedented rainstorm that occurred on April 16, authorities in the UAE have swiftly taken action to address various issues arising from the event. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap), has confirmed that measures are being implemented to mitigate the impact of power and water outages in certain limited areas. Additionally, concerns regarding 'mixed water' affecting a small number of individuals have been addressed by Mohap, ensuring their safety and providing necessary medical treatment.
A joint statement issued by the two ministries acknowledges the occurrence of rainwater leaks in underground tanks in specific regions of the country. To tackle this issue, specialized teams have promptly conducted inspections of the affected water quality, followed by thorough cleaning, disinfection, and regular testing to ensure compliance with the highest health standards recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Mohap has attended to cases of individuals exhibiting symptoms related to the consumption of mixed water, offering appropriate medical care and subsequently discharging them from hospitals after confirming their well-being. Since the heavy rainfall marked a significant event in the UAE's history, the health ministry has undertaken proactive measures and enhanced its facilities' readiness.
Guidelines have been disseminated for areas affected by the storm to safeguard public health and safety. Residents are advised to refrain from walking or swimming in potentially contaminated water pools and to avoid stagnant water, which poses risks of mosquito breeding and other hazards.
Acknowledging the commendable efforts of emergency and crisis management teams, as well as relevant authorities and specialist teams, the ministries appreciate the swift response in addressing challenges arising from the rainstorm. They emphasize the importance of obtaining information from official sources to prevent the spread of rumors that may lead to legal consequences.
Collaborating with local emergency and crisis management teams, the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec), the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (Sewa), and other local health departments, the two ministries continue to work diligently to manage the aftermath of the rainstorm and ensure the well-being of the population.
