The 26th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), successfully concluded after being held from October 1 to 3 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC). This year’s edition saw a remarkable turnout, with 2,800 exhibitors from 65 countries, and hosted 21 international pavilions representing 14 different countries. The event has grown significantly over the years, becoming one of the world’s largest exhibitions focusing on water, energy, sustainability, green development, decarbonization, green mobility, and sustainable cities.
WETEX is organized annually under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. The exhibition has become a global platform for advancing clean and renewable energy technologies, fostering innovation in sustainability, and highlighting the importance of green economies.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA and the Founder and Chairman of WETEX, highlighted that the success of this year’s WETEX is a reflection of the forward-thinking vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He noted how WETEX has become a pivotal event, providing an international platform for companies to showcase their products and services, while also serving as a venue for investors and sponsors to build business relationships, explore new opportunities, and connect with leading companies and decision-makers worldwide. The event reinforces Dubai’s status as a hub for clean and renewable energy and a center for sustainability-driven innovations. Al Tayer added that the continuous success of WETEX proves the significance of creating platforms that support collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive innovation in sustainability and green technologies.
WETEX has also been instrumental in empowering start-ups from the UAE and across the world, providing them a space to learn about the latest global trends in clean energy, as well as market needs. With the rapid adoption of renewable energy solutions in the UAE and the region, the exhibition serves as a critical opportunity for new companies to understand the future direction of green energy and align themselves with the industry’s leading innovations.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, over 130 specialized sessions and panel discussions took place, bringing together experts and specialists from across the globe. The discussions covered various topics, including clean energy, innovation, water management, electric vehicles, waste management, decarbonization, climate strategies, digital transformation, and climate finance. The sessions provided insights into the key challenges and opportunities faced by the sustainability and energy sectors, as well as the role of decision-makers in enhancing public-private partnerships and advancing global climate action.
This year’s WETEX introduced new features that added significant value to the event. A dedicated Green Mobility Zone was established to showcase companies specializing in sustainable transportation, providing a platform to explore innovative solutions and emerging technologies in individual and public transport. Additionally, a Health and Safety Hub was launched for the first time, aimed at raising awareness on modern safety practices and technologies. This hub featured interactive sessions, workshops, and panel discussions, along with a children’s safety corner and engaging competitions to promote innovation in health and safety.
DEWA used WETEX as a platform to showcase several of its leading projects that contribute to Dubai’s clean energy and sustainability goals. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park, was one of the highlights. The park’s current production capacity is 2,860MW, and it is expected to reach 4,660MW by 2026 after the completion of its sixth phase. By 2030, 27% of Dubai’s energy production will come from clean and renewable sources. The Solar Park has also set two new Guinness World Records for the tallest solar tower and the largest thermal energy storage capacity.
The Green Hydrogen project at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the first of its kind in the MENA region, was also a major focus. This project uses solar energy to produce hydrogen and has already achieved its production goals since its launch in 2021. The initiative positions DEWA at the forefront of green hydrogen production, supporting the UAE’s long-term sustainability goals.
Other key projects showcased by DEWA included the Hassyan Seawater Reverse Osmosis Independent Water Producer Project, which is the largest of its kind in the world, and the Hatta Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant, the first of its kind in the Arabian Gulf. Both projects are critical to Dubai’s strategic efforts to ensure water security and increase the use of renewable energy.
DEWA also highlighted the Smart Grid project, a major investment aimed at supporting Dubai’s ambition to become a smart city. The grid enhances the efficiency and reliability of power and water networks, and is a key enabler for integrating renewable energy sources into the Emirate’s infrastructure. The Aquifer Storage and Recovery project was another significant feature, aimed at creating the largest water reserve of its kind in the world, capable of storing six billion imperial gallons of water.
One of DEWA’s standout initiatives, the EV Green Charger, which promotes green mobility in the UAE, was also a key feature at WETEX. The initiative has significantly expanded its reach since its launch in 2014, and there are now over 700 charging stations in Dubai, with the number expected to increase in the coming years.
In addition, DEWA’s Sustainability and Innovation Centre provided a unique educational experience for WETEX visitors, showcasing the latest innovations in clean energy technology. The Centre uses immersive experiences such as drone shows, holograms, and metaverse technology to engage visitors, offering virtual tours of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
WETEX 2024 reaffirmed Dubai’s commitment to sustainability and clean energy, and set the stage for further advancements in these critical sectors in future editions. The success of the exhibition also underlined the importance of continuous innovation, collaboration, and forward-thinking initiatives that align with global sustainability efforts.
