In Jerusalem, a car ramming attack resulted in the tragic deaths of two Israeli soldiers near the city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, as reported by the Israeli army on Thursday. Initially, the army had disclosed a car ramming incident on Wednesday near an Israeli settlement outside Nablus, refraining from specifying the victims' identities. However, it later confirmed that the casualties were soldiers Eliya Hilel and Diego Shvisha Harsaj, both 20 years old and serving in the Kfir brigade.

Israeli media reports indicate that the army has initiated a comprehensive manhunt to apprehend the perpetrator responsible for the attack. This occurrence unfolds amidst heightened tensions in the West Bank, exacerbated by Israel's ongoing conflict with Hamas militants in Gaza.

The recent Gaza conflict, marked as the deadliest-ever, was ignited by an unprecedented attack by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7. The attack claimed the lives of 1,189 individuals, predominantly civilians, as per an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures. Furthermore, militants seized 252 hostages, with 121 still held in Gaza, including 37 individuals whom the Israeli army alleges are deceased. In retaliation, Israel launched a military offensive, resulting in the deaths of at least 36,171 individuals in Gaza, predominantly civilians, according to the health ministry of the Hamas-run territory.

The surge in violence extends to the West Bank, with Palestinian officials reporting at least 519 fatalities caused by Israeli troops or settlers since October 7. Excluding Wednesday's victims, Palestinian-initiated attacks have claimed the lives of at least 12 Israelis in the West Bank over the same period, according to an AFP compilation of Israeli official figures.

Hamas issued a statement welcoming the car ramming attack near Nablus, characterizing it as a "natural response" to the perceived "crimes of the enemy."
