Indian American tech billionaire Vinod Khosla has become the first major figure from the community to endorse Kamala Harris, urging a unified stand against Donald Trump’s candidacy. Khosla, a prominent Bay Area tech mogul, has called on all who are not aligned with Trump’s MAGA (Make America Great Again) ideology to support Harris and reject Trump’s vision for the US presidency.
In a recent post on X, Khosla emphasized the importance of unity among Democrats, independents, and even some Republicans who are opposed to Trump. He wrote, “Time for all ‘not MAGA’ folks to come together for @KamalaHarris to beat Trump and save our democracy, reject bad values, reject Project 2025 and the dictatorship that Trump loves, all while being a good global citizen.”
Khosla clarified that his call to action was inclusive, not just for liberals but for all good people who oppose Trump’s agenda. He stated, “As I said, there are Democrats, independents, Republicans, and then there are MAGA folks (test: election denialism). Good people on both sides. We should stand together.”
This endorsement comes amidst Khosla's ongoing criticism of Trump. Following President Joe Biden’s departure from the presidential race, Khosla engaged in a heated debate with Elon Musk, who has publicly supported Trump and contributed significantly to his campaign. Khosla had initially called for an open Democratic convention to find a moderate candidate who could effectively challenge Trump. In response, Musk suggested backing Trump and his running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, stating “LFG!!”
Khosla countered Musk’s position, expressing his concerns about Trump’s personal values and their impact on the country. He said, “Hard for me to support someone with no values, lies, cheats, rapes, demeans women, hates immigrants like me. He may cut my taxes or reduce some regulation but that is no reason to accept depravity in his personal values. Do you want a President who will set back climate by a decade in his first year? Do you want his example for your kids as values?”
Musk eventually conceded, admitting Trump’s flaws but arguing for an administration that is meritocratic and promotes individual freedoms over government intervention.
