KATINGAN REGENCY, Central Kalimantan — A massive fire swept through Kasongan Market and surrounding residential areas on the night of 25 January 2026, destroying between 15 and 30 buildings and kiosks, including parts of a local school.
Firefighters and volunteers battled the blaze for several hours before bringing it under control. Authorities have confirmed that, fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
The fire has, however, caused significant damage to homes, livelihoods, and community infrastructure. Relief efforts are currently underway as affected families begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.
Officials have emphasized that the incident underscores the critical need for robust disaster preparedness, effective emergency response systems, and strengthened community resilience in vulnerable regions.
