Iranians across the country celebrated Chaharshanbe Suri, the ancient Festival of Fire held on the eve of the last Wednesday before Nowruz, the Persian New Year.
The festival features bonfires, dancing, music, fireworks, and fire-jumping, with joyous gatherings symbolizing purification, renewal, and the arrival of spring. Participants chant traditional phrases and dance around flames, performing age-old rituals intended to leave behind sickness and bad luck while embracing new energy and hope.
Despite official discouragement and rising tensions, many young Iranians joined in the festivities, sharing videos of dancing, singing, and fire celebrations in Tehran and other cities. Rooted in pre-Islamic Zoroastrian culture, Chaharshanbe Suri remains one of Iran’s most visually striking and enduring cultural traditions.
