Adam Montgomery received a life sentence for the murder of his 5-year-old daughter and the subsequent concealment of her body.

Adam Montgomery was convicted on Thursday of second-degree murder and four other charges in the case of his 5-year-old daughter, Harmony Montgomery, who went missing in 2019 and has not been found. The verdict, reached after a two-week trial with emotional testimony, included accusations of killing Harmony, assaulting her, tampering with evidence, abusing her corpse, and threatening a witness.

Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg, expressing the gravity of the situation, commended the jury's decision, emphasizing that it's not about victory or defeat but the tragic loss of a young life. The jury deliberated for about seven hours over two days, seeking clarification on the meaning of "recklessly" in the second-degree murder charge.

Montgomery, 38, chose not to be present in court during the verdict or any part of the trial, opting to watch remotely from his jail cell. Harmony's birth mother, Crystal Sorey, and foster mother, Michelle Raftery, were in the courtroom, supported by Manchester police officers.

Sorey, calling Montgomery a coward, asserted that he killed Harmony because he couldn't control her, expressing her intent to attend Montgomery's sentencing. Prosecutor Benjamin Agati, relieved at the jury's decision, acknowledged the complexity of the case without a body or clear motive.

During closing arguments, Agati contended that Montgomery killed Harmony out of anger and frustration, highlighting evidence of abuse and neglect. Montgomery's defense attorney, Donna Brown, sought to sow doubt by emphasizing the lack of physical evidence or eyewitnesses linking Montgomery to Harmony's death.

Montgomery's sentencing is scheduled for after April 1, with Sorey planning to provide a victim impact statement.
