US Woman Arrested for Trying to Sell Her Newborn Baby on Facebook

In Texas, a 21-year-old woman named Juniper Bryson has been arrested for allegedly attempting to sell her newborn son on Facebook. Court documents reveal that Bryson had posted in a Facebook group called "Birth Mothers Looking for Adoptive Parent(s)" in September, saying she was looking for someone to adopt her unborn baby boy. Authorities report that her intent involved seeking financial support in exchange for the baby.

According to reports, Bryson first contacted a family member a day before her post, asking if they knew anyone interested in adoption. During the conversation, she hinted that her child would likely be born with drug exposure. Bryson also mentioned needing money to transition into a new apartment, find employment, and eventually reunite with her older daughter. She indicated that funds for a down payment or car to facilitate food delivery work would be sufficient.

As the investigation unfolded, it was found that Bryson had reached out to multiple people about potential adoption. Among those contacted was a same-sex couple from Louisiana, who drove overnight to meet her after she had given birth. However, the couple became uncomfortable when Bryson allegedly began requesting payments, asking for $150 after previously asking for $25 for food. Disappointed by her demands, the couple returned home. Bryson reportedly reacted angrily, stating, “If the baby wasn’t worth $200 to them, then screw all.”

Meanwhile, Wendy Williams, a Houston resident, met Bryson in the hospital during labor and stayed with her for several days. Williams developed a bond with the baby and witnessed Bryson going through withdrawal symptoms. "I felt a connection as if he were biologically mine," Williams shared, seeing Bryson as someone facing difficult circumstances and battling addiction.

Court documents indicate that Bryson allowed Williams and her husband to name the baby, and both parties signed legal documents while still in the hospital. Bryson then posted on Facebook that she had found a home for the baby, tagging Williams. However, the post led to unexpected backlash, as social media users accused Williams of buying the child. Williams, taken aback by the criticism, said, “People started commenting really ugly things, accusing me of buying the baby.”

Disturbed by the situation, Williams confronted Bryson, who then reportedly asked a nurse to escort Williams from her room. Concerned for the baby’s welfare, Williams contacted Child Protective Services, which subsequently led to Bryson’s arrest.

This case has similarities with a recent incident in Arkansas, where a young couple allegedly attempted to sell their newborn son for $1,000 and some cans of beer. In that case, the couple handed over custody to another individual and even signed a document transferring parental rights before their arrest.

In Bryson’s situation, she faces a felony charge and is currently held in Harris County Jail with a bond set at $30,000. The case highlights the complex challenges faced by individuals in vulnerable positions and underscores the importance of proper legal oversight in adoption processes.
