UNS Vertical Farms Launches Educational Farm Tours in Dubai to Promote Sustainable Farming
13 November 2024; Dubai, UAE – UNS Vertical Farms, part of the Speedex Group and a leader in vertical farming in the UAE since 2018, is excited to announce the launch of its new Farm Tours. This initiative is designed to teach the community about sustainable farming and help people in Dubai learn more about the benefits of growing food in an eco-friendly way.
The Farm Tours will be open to a wide range of groups, including students, children, college groups, and local community members. During these 1-hour tours, participants will explore different crop sections at the farm and discover how local, vertical farming helps reduce environmental harm while also ensuring food security. UNS Vertical Farms aims to connect people with where their food comes from and inspire them to make healthy, sustainable food choices.
These tours are aligned with the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy and highlight the importance of choosing locally grown produce. By growing food locally, we can reduce carbon emissions and save natural resources, which helps the environment and supports sustainable food systems.
“We want to bring people closer to their food and show them the value of sustainable farming. We believe that by educating the community on how food is grown and how local farming benefits everyone, we can encourage healthier and more eco-friendly choices,” said Mehlam Murtaza, Executive Director of UNS Vertical Farms. “Together, we can create a future where fresh, sustainable food is available to everyone.”
During the tour, participants will get a behind-the-scenes look at how UNS Farms uses vertical farming techniques to grow food in a sustainable way. The tour begins with an introduction to UNS Farms and its mission to promote sustainability in the UAE. Visitors will then enter the growing chambers, where plants are nurtured in specially controlled environments. They will learn about different crops, such as microgreens, fresh salads, and edible flowers, and understand how these crops are grown without soil, using hydroponic systems.
The tour will also cover topics like soil mixes, plant life cycles, and the methods used to harvest and package food in a way that reduces waste. At the end of the tour, visitors will receive a special take-home grow kit, encouraging them to try growing their own plants at home and become more involved in sustainable food practices.
Through these farm tours, UNS Farms hopes to inspire the Dubai community to support local agriculture and make better choices for the environment. By choosing locally grown produce, people in Dubai can enjoy fresh, nutritious vegetables and actively help reduce their carbon footprint. This effort supports both the UAE’s goals for food security and environmental protection.
Since its founding in 2018, UNS Farms has been providing high-quality, locally grown produce to chefs, families, and restaurants in Dubai. UNS Farms is committed to maintaining an ecological balance by using minimal land and resources to grow food, helping Dubai move toward a sustainable and resilient food system.
Join UNS Farms in Embracing a Greener Future
UNS Farms' Farm Tours are now available to both individuals and school or university groups interested in learning about sustainable farming and local food systems. This program aims to inspire Dubai residents to support local agriculture, make sustainable food choices, and help build a healthier, greener future for all.
