The event had the theme *Tapestry of Humanity* and began with a musical performance by 18-year-old Indonesian singer Putri Ariani and Emirati pianist Rashed Al Marzooqi, who is blind. The event was held on the same day as the International Day of Human Fraternity, which is a special day recognised by the United Nations. This day remembers the signing of the Abu Dhabi Document on Human Fraternity by His Holiness Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church, and His Eminence Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, on February 4, 2019.

The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity was given to three people and groups who have worked to make the world a better place. The first winner was Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, who was honoured for her strong efforts in fighting climate change and helping countries that suffer because of it. The second winner was *World Central Kitchen*, a food charity started by Chef José Andrés, which has helped feed millions of people during disasters and wars. The third winner was 15-year-old Heman Bekele, who created a special soap that may help treat early-stage skin cancer.

Mia Amor Mottley was chosen for her leadership in climate action. She started the *Bridgetown Initiative* in 2022, which focuses on helping poor countries deal with climate problems. She also introduced smart financial ideas like debt-for-climate swaps, which help countries invest in climate protection while keeping their economy stable. Her goal is to make Barbados use only clean energy by 2030.

*World Central Kitchen* has been helping people since 2010 and has given more than 300 million meals in over 30 countries. They work in dangerous areas, responding quickly to disasters and making sure hungry people get food.

Heman Bekele, the youngest winner of the award, was recognised for his idea to create an affordable soap to treat early-stage skin cancer. He was inspired to do this because skin cancer treatment is too expensive for many people in poor countries. He is now working with scientists from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to improve his soap and make it available to people who need it most.

His Holiness Pope Francis spoke in a video message, saying that he hopes the winners of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity will inspire others to work for peace and kindness in the world. His Eminence Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, also sent a message, congratulating the winners and praising their efforts. He thanked Mia Mottley for her fight against climate change, Heman Bekele for his life-saving invention, and *World Central Kitchen* for feeding people in need.

In her speech, Mia Amor Mottley said that people must work together to make the world a better place for future generations. She said the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity is important because it reminds people about unity and kindness. Chef José Andrés, founder of *World Central Kitchen*, said that the values of tolerance, understanding, and respect are what guide his organisation. He added that the UAE also follows these values, and he is proud to receive this award.

Heman Bekele thanked the organisers and said that his dream is to make healthcare affordable for everyone, no matter where they live or how much money they have. He said science should help all people, not just the rich. He believes this award will help him continue his work.

At the end of the ceremony, it was announced that nominations for the 2026 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity are now open. People who want to nominate someone can do so through the official website of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity.
