Belgorod, Russia: A Ukrainian attack late Friday night on the southwestern city of Belgorod resulted in five deaths and 46 injuries, according to local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. This incident marks the latest in a series of Ukrainian strikes on Belgorod in recent months.
Gladkov reported that among the injured, 37 people, including seven children, have been hospitalized in the city, located approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of the Ukrainian border. The attack's severity was evident from video footage posted on social media, which purportedly shows a car exploding while moving along a road, followed by a secondary explosion nearby. The authenticity of the video could not be immediately verified.

Russia's Foreign Ministry condemned the assault, describing it as a "brutal terrorist attack." The Ministry called on international governments and organizations to denounce the attack and distance themselves from what it described as the Kyiv regime and its Western supporters. The statement reaffirmed Russia's intent to continue its "special military operation" until it achieves all its objectives, including Ukraine’s "demilitarization and de-nazification."
The Russian Investigation Committee has opened a criminal case into the attack, as announced on its Telegram channel.
In a related development, Ukrainian shelling on Saturday injured a woman in the border town of Shebekino within the Belgorod region. This latest violence reflects the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Both nations maintain that they do not deliberately target civilians in the war.
