Moscow, reports indicate that recent Ukrainian strikes targeted areas within the Russian-held Lugansk and Kherson regions, resulting in significant casualties. According to authorities associated with the occupying forces, the attacks left 26 people dead and numerous others injured.
These regions, claimed by Russia in a disputed annexation in September 2022, have been subjected to ongoing conflict since then, despite Russia not having full control over them following the military campaign initiated in February of that year.

Vladimir Saldo, head of the Russian occupation authorities in Kherson, communicated via Telegram that a shop in the village of Sadove in the southern Kherson region was destroyed in the assault. The shop was reportedly crowded with visitors and employees at the time. Saldo lamented the loss of life, stating that the strike resulted in 22 fatalities and 15 injuries. He condemned the attacks as a "vile murder of civilians" facilitated by Western arms support for Ukraine.
In a separate incident, Russian-appointed officials in Lugansk reported a Ukrainian missile strike on an apartment block in the region's main city, also named Lugansk. The attack claimed the lives of four individuals and left over 40 wounded. Leonid Pasechnik, the Russia-appointed head of the region, described the strike as "massive."
The aftermath of the strike revealed extensive damage, with a section of the apartment block collapsing and the bodies of the deceased being recovered from the rubble. Among the injured were children, including an eight-year-old boy and three teenagers, with ten individuals reported to be in critical condition.
The Russian Defence Ministry accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilian areas, alleging that Ukrainian forces fired American-made missiles at residential districts of Lugansk. The Ministry claimed that four of the missiles were intercepted by Russian air defenses, while one struck residential buildings.
Meanwhile, Russia asserted military gains against Ukrainian forces, citing advancements along the front lines and the liberation of the settlement of Paraskoviivka. This development is part of broader territorial gains claimed by Russia in eastern Ukraine, including the capture of numerous towns and villages.
The conflict continues to escalate, with casualties mounting and civilian populations enduring the brunt of the violence.
