Following Russian air attacks damaging power stations and claiming lives, Ukraine issued a stark warning about the escalating threat to its electricity infrastructure. The strikes, part of an intensified aerial bombardment by Moscow in recent weeks, specifically target energy facilities in response to Ukrainian actions near Russia's border regions.
A 39-year-old man was killed and another person injured by a Russian drone near Nikopol, while an air raid in Kamianske wounded five, including a child. Prime Minister Denys Shmygal condemned the attacks as barbaric, leading to emergency blackouts in some regions and underscoring Ukraine's urgent need for enhanced air defense systems.

Ukraine's foreign ministry highlighted the increasing frequency and severity of Russian attacks on its energy security. Moscow's defense ministry claimed to have targeted Ukrainian "fuel and energy sector" installations, though Ukraine refutes this, attributing the strikes to Russian aggression.
Throughout the ongoing conflict, Russia has consistently targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leading President Volodymyr Zelensky to denounce such actions as "energy terrorism." The United Nations has condemned these attacks as illegal.
Ukraine's national grid operator, Ukrenergo, reported missile and drone strikes on thermal and hydroelectric power plants, resulting in blackouts in several regions. Citizens were urged to conserve electricity due to the damage inflicted on power facilities.
DTEK, a major energy provider, confirmed severe damage to three thermal power stations, with one employee wounded. The energy ministry reported widespread damage across central and western Ukraine, disrupting train services and causing blackouts.
Meanwhile, Ukraine finds itself on the defensive amid ammunition shortages and delays in receiving aid from Washington. Armed forces commander Oleksandr Syrsky described the situation as tense, with Russian forces increasing their efforts and enjoying a numerical advantage.
The conflict's toll is evident, with Ukraine facing significant challenges in safeguarding its energy infrastructure and ensuring the security of its citizens in the face of relentless attacks from Russia
