NCM Official Designates May 2-3 as the Peak of Weather Situation
Preparations are underway in the UAE as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) official identifies May 2-3 as the peak of an impending weather situation. Unlike the rainfall experienced on April 16, the forthcoming scenario is expected to differ, according to Dr. Ahmed Habib, a weather specialist at the NCM.
Dr. Habib forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall across scattered areas in the days ahead, accompanied by lightning, thunder, and a possibility of hail. He noted that hail was witnessed in the Al Shoaib area on Sunday and is likely over eastern areas, extending to internal and western regions.

Residents are urged to prepare for unsettled weather and rainfall on May 2, with Dr. Habib emphasizing that May 2-3 is identified as the peak of the situation. He assures that this event will be distinct from previous occurrences.
The weather is expected to deteriorate from Wednesday night onwards, extending across most areas of the country by Thursday, particularly affecting western, coastal, and some eastern regions. Significant temperature drops are also anticipated.
Dr. Habib explains that the influence of a low-pressure system originating from the East will lead to increased humidity and rising surface temperatures until Wednesday daytime. Convective clouds are expected to form, primarily in the daytime and gradually move towards inland areas.
Regarding the improvement of weather conditions, Dr. Habib anticipates that the low pressure will move southward by Friday-Saturday, resulting in decreased cloud cover and light to moderate rain.
Factors contributing to the weather situation include local and external influences. Dr. Habib mentions the impact of a surface low-pressure extension from the Red Sea and humid southeasterly winds, along with a similar extension in the upper atmosphere from the north.
As for the record-breaking rainfall on April 16, Dr. Habib states that investigations are ongoing to determine if it was influenced by the climate crisis. The UAE experienced its most substantial rainfall in 75 years within a span of fewer than 24 hours, causing widespread disruption and flooding.
Dr. Habib emphasizes the need for thorough examination of various factors to understand the phenomenon of intense rainfall events and their relationship to global warming.
