UAE Work Permit Suspension: 5 Key Exemptions You Should Know (2025)

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) in the UAE has shared new rules about work permits. These rules are for workers who leave their jobs without permission. There are some cases where workers will not have their work permits stopped, even if they leave their jobs.

Here are five cases where work permits will not be stopped. First, workers who are sponsored by family members are not affected. Second, workers who want to get a new permit with the same employer won’t have their permits stopped. Third, people with the Golden Visa will keep their permits. Fourth, workers can change employers after finishing their contracts without any issues. Fifth, if a worker's contract ends early or the employer ends it without fault from the worker, the worker’s permit stays valid.

Employers must follow certain steps if a worker is absent without any reason. First, they have to wait for seven days without the worker showing up. Then, they should make sure the worker cannot be reached. After that, they need to use the UAE Pass to access the MoHRE system and report the absence. They also need to provide the worker's details and confirm their identity with a one-time password.

Before reporting a worker’s absence, the employer should make sure the worker has been absent for seven days, clear any fines, and check that the worker is still in the country.

Both the employer and the worker have the right to end the work contract, but they must follow the rules. The reason for ending the contract must be valid, and both sides must give written notice. They also have to follow proper steps during the notice period.

Workers are protected by law. Employers cannot end a contract if a worker has made a valid complaint or taken legal action. If a worker can prove they were wrongly fired, they may get money as compensation from the court.

These new rules in 2025 are designed to protect both workers and employers. They make it clearer when work permits will be stopped and give better protection to workers. These updates help both workers and employers know their rights and follow the law in the UAE.
