UAE residents were on high alert as heavy rains, lightning, and thunderstorms pounded the country, prompting an orange alert issued on Thursday. The onslaught of inclement weather disrupted the daily routines of many, with some forced to brave early morning downpours and strong winds in their neighborhoods. Particularly in the northern regions, waterfalls cascaded amidst the looming presence of dark rain clouds over mountainous terrain.
In anticipation of this weather phenomenon, which was projected to peak on May 2nd and 3rd, safety precautions were swiftly implemented across various sectors. Schools transitioned to distance learning, companies encouraged remote work arrangements, and recreational areas like parks and beaches were closed. The aviation industry also braced for impact, with airports and airlines taking preemptive measures.

Reports from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) indicated that heavy rains began shortly after midnight, with Dubai experiencing showers and lightning as early as 2:35 am. While the intensity of these rains was expected to be less severe compared to recent unprecedented downpours, authorities emphasized the importance of public vigilance and precautionary measures.
In response to the challenging weather conditions, the Dubai Police issued safety guidelines for drivers, advising caution on the roads. Meanwhile, residents across the UAE endured a restless night as howling winds and torrential rains persisted through the early hours of Thursday. While incidents of fallen trees, trash bins, and billboards were reported due to strong winds, no major flooding was recorded in Dubai South.
Abu Dhabi motorists were also cautioned as speed limits were reduced on major roads across the capital city. The NCM raised an orange warning for nearly all areas in the country, highlighting the potential hazards until 8 pm. Landmarks like the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi were shrouded in thick clouds, while residents in Ras Al Khaimah witnessed waterfalls gushing amidst the mountainous terrain.
As the UAE navigated through this wave of unstable weather, authorities urged the public to stay informed, exercise caution, and adhere to safety guidelines to mitigate risks and ensure community well-being.
