The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has formally addressed the UN Security Council with a letter advocating for peace in Sudan and urgent measures to prevent famine. The statement underscores UAE's support for all efforts towards achieving a ceasefire amid the ongoing crisis.
In a significant development, the UAE's letter highlights the call for all factions involved in the conflict to engage in the Jeddah talks. The UAE Mission at the UN has commended Uganda, key African Union (AU) officials, and regional leaders for their efforts in resolving the Sudanese crisis. Additionally, the UAE has endorsed the African Union Peace and Security Council's appeal for immediate meetings among the warring factions under AU and Intergovernmental Authority on Development auspices. This includes participation in the upcoming comprehensive political dialogue in Addis Ababa scheduled for July 10 to 15, 2024.
The UAE's statement from New York urgently addresses the looming famine risk and emphasizes the critical need for unimpeded humanitarian aid delivery to civilians in Sudan.

"The international community must step up support for Sudan. Resolving this crisis cannot be hampered by factions that do not represent the Sudanese people's interests," the UAE asserted. "We are committed to collaborating with global partners to mitigate famine risks and encourage positive engagement in political processes. Peace efforts must be backed by all parties seeking a peaceful resolution."
Furthermore, the UAE reiterated its backing for de-escalation, ceasefire implementation, and negotiations aimed at reinstating a legitimate, inclusive Sudanese government. It firmly rejects any military solution to the conflict, emphasizing the need for political dialogue.
Addressing allegations made by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), the UAE clarified several points. Images purportedly showing UAE passports on the battlefield were refuted as scans or photocopies belonging to charity workers and a businessman who visited Sudan before the conflict erupted. The UAE categorically denied supplying arms to any party since the conflict began, highlighting previous military assistance provided in compliance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
A UAE Government Spokesman dismissed the allegations as baseless fabrications lacking context or evidence, emphasizing the enduring bilateral relations between the UAE and Sudan. The UAE continues to support Sudanese nationals within its community and has actively contributed to humanitarian efforts. Following a declined offer to establish a field hospital in Sudan, the UAE set up two near the Chad-Sudan border, serving as vital medical facilities. Additionally, recent agreements with the UN reflect UAE's commitment, allocating USD 70 million in aid, supplementing the USD 130 million already disbursed since April 2023.
The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to presenting its case through the UN to promote conflict resolution and dispel misinformation hindering international discussions on Sudan's future and the plight of its people.
