His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, has extended his deep gratitude and appreciation to the leadership of the UAE for their steadfast support and vision, which has been instrumental in reaching a significant milestone with the commercial operation of the fourth unit of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. This achievement underscores the UAE's enhanced role in the global transition towards clean energy and its commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050.

Sheikh Hamdan highlighted that the successful commissioning of Unit 4 marks a major advancement in the UAE's mission to become a leading global hub for clean energy. The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, with all four of its operational units, now provides up to a quarter of the UAE’s electricity needs without generating carbon emissions, representing a critical step in the country’s energy strategy.

In his statement, Sheikh Hamdan noted, “The commercial operations of Unit 4 at the Barakah Plant come at a time when the global nuclear energy sector is experiencing a renaissance. This shift is driven by increasing international recognition of the need for concerted efforts to combat climate change. The consensus of approximately 24 countries at COP 28, hosted by the UAE last year, to triple nuclear energy capacity by 2050 further exemplifies this movement. The Barakah Plant is central to the UAE’s energy self-sufficiency and contributes significantly to the nation’s diversified and distinguished energy mix. It also supports economic growth, job creation, and plays a key role in accelerating the decarbonization of the UAE. The Plant has emerged as a source of regional and global inspiration, particularly for those interested in launching new peaceful nuclear energy programs to drive economic development and address climate challenges.”

Sheikh Hamdan also commended the Emirati talents who worked alongside global experts to achieve this landmark. Their efforts, he said, reflect the UAE’s vast potential and experience in developing major projects while upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance.

“The Emirati journey of excellence will persist and continue to yield benefits for both the nation and humanity at large,” Sheikh Hamdan concluded, reaffirming the UAE’s ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation in the energy sector.
