UAE Reveals Recognized Driving License for Dubai Roads

The United Arab Emirates government, through the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, has unveiled a comprehensive list of 43 countries whose driving licenses are recognized for use in the emirate. This move aims to streamline regulations and facilitate the process for international drivers navigating Dubai's roads.

According to an official statement released by the RTA, residents from the recognized countries can apply to replace their driving licenses at various Customer Happiness Centers across Dubai. These centers, located in Umm Ramool, Latwar, Deira, Al-Kifaf, Al-Barsha, and Al-Manara, as well as the car registration center in Hatta, offer convenient access for license replacements.

Among the countries whose driving licenses are recognized in Dubai are prominent nations such as Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain, along with several European countries including Lithuania, Iceland, Romania, and the Netherlands. Other recognized countries include Austria, Portugal, Estonia, Germany, Greece, France, Hungary, Cyprus, Italy, Sweden, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Latvia, Slovenia, Poland, Ireland, Montenegro, Spain, Denmark, Malta, Finland, Turkey, Ukraine, Luxembourg, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, China, New Zealand, and Singapore.

To initiate the process of replacing a driving license in the UAE, residents must present their original license, a valid Emirates ID card, and a legal translation of the license if it is issued in a language other than Arabic or English. It is mandatory for applicants to appear in person at one of the designated Customer Happiness Centers, although they may authorize a legal representative to act on their behalf.

Residents from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries must ensure that their driving licenses are valid to avoid cancellation of the original license. The replacement process incurs various fees, including a 200 dirhams fee for requesting license replacement and file opening, a 600 dirhams fee for issuing a license based on changing a driving license in Dubai, a 50 dirhams traffic booklet fee, and a 20 dirhams innovation and knowledge fee.

Payment for these fees can be made through the Ministry of Interior's payment gateway, which accepts credit cards, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay. The RTA provides comprehensive support for residents seeking to replace their driving licenses, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.

For residents' convenience, the Customer Happiness Centers are strategically located across Dubai, offering accessible services for license replacement. These centers play a crucial role in facilitating administrative procedures and enhancing customer satisfaction.

The initiative reflects the UAE's commitment to modernizing its transportation infrastructure and fostering a welcoming environment for international residents and visitors alike. By recognizing driving licenses from various countries, Dubai continues to uphold its reputation as a global hub for commerce, tourism, and innovation.
