In response to the unprecedented rainfall that drenched the UAE on Tuesday, April 16, the National Guard's "Search and Rescue" team sprang into action, conducting 136 operations within 24 hours. Collaborating with the Ministry of Interior and other key partners, these operations encompassed search, rescue, and medical evacuations, reflecting the government's swift and coordinated response to the adverse weather conditions.
Amidst the deluge, the Search and Rescue Centre worked tirelessly to assist individuals stranded by flooded valleys, vehicle breakdowns, and inundated buildings. A total of 65 medical evacuations and 71 search and rescue missions were executed, ensuring the safety of those in distress. Evacuees were safely relocated, while the injured received prompt medical attention at nearby hospitals.
Despite these efforts, tragedy struck when a 70-year-old Emirati man lost his life in Ras Al Khaimah. Attempting to navigate Wadi Isfani in his vehicle, he was swept away by the powerful currents, underlining the perilous consequences of disregarding the dangers posed by the torrential rainfall.
The government's robust response underscores its commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens and residents during times of crisis. Through proactive measures and collaborative efforts, authorities aim to mitigate the impact of adverse weather events and ensure the safety and security of all individuals across the UAE.
