This event was part of the "Year of Community" and the Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative. It was done to show both countries' strong support for protecting nature and building a green future.
The tree planting was done by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and the Embassy of the Philippines. Many important people joined, like Mr. Alfonso Ver, the Ambassador of the Philippines to the UAE, Mr. Ahmed Al Hashemi from EAD, and Mr. Abdulla Saeed Al Shamsi, head of Jubail Island.
Before planting the trees, the guests took a walk through the mangrove park. They learned about how mangroves help the sea and the land, and how they are good for the environment.
Mr. Ahmed Al Hashemi said: “This day is special. It shows 50 years of strong friendship between the UAE and the Philippines. We both care about saving nature. Mangrove trees are important because they clean the air, help animals live, and protect people from strong winds and sea waves.”
He also said: “Planting trees like mangroves is not just for show—it helps protect the Earth. These trees give shelter to sea life and help stop floods and storms.”
Ambassador Alfonso Ver said: “People need food, clean air, and water. All these come from nature. But climate change is making nature weak. That’s why we must take care of it. Mangrove trees are very helpful and can even be used to make clean energy. The Philippines also has mangrove forests and we are happy to join the UAE in this work.”
He added: “The Philippines and UAE have been friends for 50 years, and we want this strong bond to continue. Planting these trees is a symbol of our friendship.”
Mr. Abdulla Saeed Al Shamsi said: “We are happy to host this event at Jubail Mangrove Park. This place shows how much we care about nature. Mangrove trees are strong and full of life, just like the friendship between the UAE and the Philippines. Today’s planting shows our shared hope for a green and safe world.”
This event shows that both countries want to work together to protect nature and help the planet. It also shows that when countries work as one, they can do great things for the Earth and for the next generation.
