The Ministry of Economy, in conjunction with the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TRA), has rolled out stringent measures to curb unsolicited telemarketing practices in the UAE. Under these new regulations, cold callers now face hefty fines of AED 150,000, reflecting a concerted effort to shield residents from intrusive marketing tactics.
Effective from August onwards, companies are prohibited from making repeated calls to individuals who have already rejected their services during the initial conversation. Moreover, they are barred from reinitiating calls if the recipient declines or terminates the conversation. These measures aim to safeguard consumer privacy and prevent undue harassment from persistent telemarketers.

In addition to limiting the frequency of calls, the regulations stipulate specific time frames for telemarketing activities. Calls can only be made between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., ensuring that individuals are not disturbed during late hours. Companies must obtain prior authorization from regulatory authorities to conduct telemarketing campaigns, with stringent penalties, including the revocation of operating licenses, awaiting those who flout the rules.
Furthermore, the new guidelines mandate that marketing calls can only originate from numbers associated with licensed companies, rather than individual or personal lines. This measure aims to enhance transparency and accountability within the telemarketing industry.
To bolster consumer protection, individuals are empowered to lodge complaints if they encounter violations of these regulations. This mechanism provides recourse for those who experience persistent and unwanted solicitation, enabling swift enforcement of the rules.
Importantly, these regulations apply universally across all companies operating within the UAE, including those located within free zones. By imposing standardized guidelines, authorities seek to create a level playing field and ensure consistent compliance across the board.
Overall, the introduction of these stringent regulations underscores the government's commitment to fostering a respectful and transparent business environment while safeguarding consumer rights in the face of evolving marketing practices.
