Russia and Ukraine have executed their fourth significant swap of prisoners of war, a move facilitated by the mediation efforts of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry disclosed that a total of 150 prisoners have been released, although the specific breakdown from each side has not been formally announced by their respective governments.
Acknowledging the pivotal role played by the UAE in brokering the exchange, the ministry underscored its gratitude to both Russia and Ukraine for their collaborative approach and responsiveness to mediation efforts. This latest swap underscores the UAE's commitment to fostering peaceful resolutions to the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing a steadfast advocacy for diplomacy, dialogue, and de-escalation.

This exchange follows three previous swaps conducted earlier in the year, with approximately 600 prisoners returned in February across two separate exchanges. In January, amidst one of the most intricate deals of the conflict, 248 prisoners were repatriated to Russia, while 230 Ukrainians were reunited with their families.
The UAE's involvement as a mediator in these exchanges reflects its commitment to regional stability and humanitarian diplomacy. Notably, the UAE played a crucial role in facilitating the successful exchange of two prisoners between the United States and Russia in December 2022, showcasing its diplomatic prowess and commitment to conflict resolution efforts on a global scale.
In a related diplomatic development, Dr. Mohammed Al Jaber, UAE ambassador to Russia, engaged in discussions with Russia's deputy foreign minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, in Moscow. The meeting focused on bolstering bilateral relations and exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation across various sectors, including commerce, economics, culture, and humanitarian initiatives. These diplomatic engagements underscore the UAE's proactive approach in fostering constructive dialogue and strengthening ties with key international partners.
