The agreement was signed by Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security for the UAE, and Troy A. During the signing, Al Shamsi emphasized the agreement's potential to strengthen the economic partnership between the UAE and the US. He highlighted several anticipated benefits, including increased trade exchange, reduced customs violations and illicit trade, and enhanced technical cooperation through the sharing of information and best practices. The agreement is expected to elevate national competencies by providing training and exposure to successful customs operations.
Al Shamsi noted the steady growth of bilateral trade between the UAE and the US, which is underpinned by deep political and economic ties. He remarked that this growth brings multiple advantages, particularly in enhancing customs relations, expanding trade scope, and leveraging best practices to address challenges that may obstruct the smooth flow of goods across shared supply chains.
Furthermore, he pointed out the strategic importance of this cooperation agreement, given the UAE’s critical role as a regional gateway for global trade. The US, recognized as the world's largest economy, has historically been a vital economic partner for the UAE, making this agreement a significant step in solidifying their collaborative efforts in customs and trade.
The signing of this agreement reflects the commitment of both nations to enhance their economic partnership, facilitating not only trade but also contributing to the overall economic stability and growth in the region.
