In a tragic incident that shook New York City, two men have pleaded guilty to drug charges and causing bodily harm in connection to a toddler's fatal opioid overdose at a daycare. The men, identified as Felix Herrera Garcia, 35, and Parras Paredes, 38, admitted their guilt in court proceedings.
According to prosecutors, Felix Herrera Garcia confessed to three felony drug trafficking charges, including narcotics possession with the intent to distribute resulting in serious bodily injury. Similarly, Parras Paredes also pleaded guilty to a similar count. Both individuals, residents of the Bronx, were found to have stored fentanyl in the floorboards of a daycare's playroom located in the Bronx.
The heart-wrenching incident occurred at the Divino Nino daycare facility in September, where a 22-month-old toddler named Nicholas Dominici tragically lost his life due to ingesting fentanyl. Miraculously, three other children managed to survive after receiving Narcan, an overdose-reversing medication. The revelation of drugs being stored in the daycare's premises sent shockwaves through the community.

Following the overdose incident, Felix Herrera Garcia fled the United States and spent approximately two weeks as a fugitive in Mexico before being apprehended. The daycare's operator, believed to be Herrera's wife, along with another individual, faced separate charges including murder, narcotics possession, and assault.
The guilty pleas of Herrera and Paredes mark a significant development in the legal proceedings surrounding this heartbreaking case. Prosecutors emphasized that both men now face a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison for their involvement in the incident. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of drug-related crimes, especially when innocent lives are at stake.
