US President-elect Donald Trump's transition team is preparing a series of executive orders and proclamations that will advance his planned environmental and energy policies, according to a report on Friday. These actions include a formal withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and efforts to reduce the size of certain national monuments, a move aimed at opening more areas for drilling and mining operations.

Trump’s administration is also expected to lift the pause on new permits for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, which was put in place by the Biden administration. This move will clear the way for the United States to export more LNG to major international markets, including those in Asia and Europe. Additionally, Trump plans to revoke the waiver that currently allows California and several other states to impose stricter pollution standards than those set by the federal government.
The Trump transition team has long signaled its intention to pursue these actions, which align with promises made during the presidential campaign. Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the transition team, stated that Trump’s election victory gave him a clear mandate to fulfill his campaign promises, including on energy policy.
The Biden administration had previously paused the approval of new LNG export permits in January 2021 to conduct a comprehensive study on the environmental and economic impacts of these exports. The U.S. Energy Department is expected to release a draft of the updated analysis for public comment by the end of the year, with a 60-day period for feedback.
In addition to energy policy changes, some members of Trump’s transition team are reportedly discussing relocating the headquarters of the Environmental Protection Agency out of Washington, D.C., though details on this plan remain unclear.
The actions being prepared by Trump’s team are part of a broader agenda to roll back environmental regulations and promote energy production, which was a key element of his administration's policies during his first term in office. Critics, however, have expressed concern that these moves could undermine efforts to address climate change and environmental protection in the U.S.
