A tragic accident claimed the life of a 17-year-old high school student, Marko Niketic, just weeks before his anticipated graduation. The incident occurred late on May 12 in Glenview, Illinois, when Niketic's car was struck by another vehicle traveling at a staggering speed of 193 km/hour. The impact was so severe that Niketic's car split into two.
The driver of the speeding vehicle, identified as Taeyoung Kim, a 21-year-old, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. According to reports, Kim had been driving recklessly, racing past other vehicles and even turning off his headlights as he approached the intersection where Niketic was making a left turn.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moment when Kim's vehicle, still without headlights, crashed into Niketic's car. The force of the collision caused Niketic's vehicle to split apart, with the front half remaining on the road while the back half was propelled into a nearby backyard after colliding with a fence.
Tragically, Niketic was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 16-year-old girlfriend, who was also in the car, sustained critical injuries. She suffered brain injuries and a fractured pelvis vertebrae, requiring urgent medical attention. Additionally, Kim's passenger was seriously injured, sustaining a fractured back and a severed artery.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that Kim's blood alcohol level was .088, above the legal limit, and traces of cannabis were found in his system. He was subsequently arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated drunken driving, reckless homicide, and violating traffic regulations.
During the investigation, police discovered drug paraphernalia in Kim's vehicle, further complicating the case. Kim appeared in court, where he was denied bail and remanded into custody pending further legal proceedings.
The devastating loss of Niketic has deeply impacted the community, especially coming just days before his high school's prom and weeks ahead of his graduation. As his loved ones mourn his untimely passing, they remember him fondly and honor his memory as a promising young student with a bright future ahead.
